The World’s Greatest Shave is an initiative run by the Leukaemia Foundation that raises money for blood cancer research and provides support to affected individuals and their families.
Rehayem has taken part in the initiative before – having shaved his head for the cause in 2020 – where he raised $37,242, the largest amount raised by any individual that year.
Rehayem and his sons will be taking the shave together on Thursday (14 March) and are hoping to raise $40,000 to continue blood cancer research and to support those affected.
As of Friday afternoon (8 March), they had already raised more than $39,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation and were second place in the fundraising leaderboard, according to the World’s Greatest Shave website.
Speaking of their participation, Rehayem stated: “I’m raising funds for the Leukaemia Foundation to give Australians facing blood cancer life-changing practical and emotional support. And to fund critical research, bringing us closer to the day when zero lives are lost to blood cancer.
“Blood cancer is Australia’s hidden cancer crisis. There are 140,000 families facing blood cancer right now. And it takes the lives of 16 Australians every day.
“These numbers are set to double by 2035. Unless we do something about it. That’s why I’ve signed up for the World’s Greatest Shave.”
The Pepper Money CEO has previously stated that the cause is close to his heart, as his grandmother was diagnosed with blood cancer.
He is calling on the broking community to donate to his fundraiser to help him and his sons reach their $40,000 target.
“Any amount – big or small – will make a real, tangible difference,” he said.
In 2020, the CEO was described by the Leukaemia Foundation as a fundraising “hero”. He was honoured at a virtual event as the individual who had raised the most money for the World’s Greatest Shave 2020.
