Several members of the finance industry, including a former bank CEO, have been recognised in the Australia Day 2025 Honours List.
The Governor-General Sam Mostyn AC has announced honours and awards for 732 Australians, including recognition in the Order of Australia (General and Military Divisions), meritorious awards, and recognition for distinguished and conspicuous service.

The Australia Day 2025 Honours List features:
- 457 awards in the General Division of the Order of Australia (6 AC, 23 AO, 108 AM, and 320 OAM).
- 25 awards in the Military Division of the Order of Australia (1 AO, 11 AM, and 13 OAM).
- 196 meritorious awards.
- 54 conspicuous awards.
This list also includes 24 recipients being recognised (at least in part) for their contribution in support of Australia’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The youngest recipient of an award is just 14 years old while the eldest living recipient is 98 years old.
Several members of the finance industry have been recognised in the list, including:
- Robert Chapman, who served as CEO of St.George Bank between 2009 and 2011, received an AM for “significant service to the financial sector, and to Australian rules football” (for his work as the former chair of Adelaide Football Club). Between 2002 and 2010, Chapman was the managing director at BankSA, before working as chairman of the lender’s advisory board.
- The Honourable Nicholas Sherry, a former politician and FNZ senior banker, was named an Officer of Order of Australia for “distinguished service to the Parliament of Australia, to the governance and operation of the superannuation industry, and to the people of Tasmania”. Sherry previously held several positions at FNZ APAC including senior director, chairman, executive chair, and chairman, Australia. He also served in the Senate between 1990 and 2012.
- Former stockbroker John Bowie Wilson, who was previously deputy chairman at Shaw and Partners Stockbroking, received an OAM for “service to the financial sector”. He held the role of chairman at institutional broking firm, LINWAR Securities, and also served as a director at BNP Equities.
- Daniel Dreyfus, co-founding director and chair of the Australian Stockbrokers Foundation, was awarded an OAM for “service to the community through charitable organisations”. Dreyfus was previously chief brokerage officer at E*TRADE Australia and has been a principal and investment adviser at Morgans Financial Limited, since 2010.
Announcing the list, Mostyn said: “Congratulations to all of the 2025 Australia Day honours recipients. Thank you for your work of care and service to our nation.
“To read recipient stories is to be reminded that contribution to communities across the country, underpinned by care, kindness, respect and love, is what matter[s] most to all Australians, in every sphere of life. Recipients embody the best of us, and we are grateful to all of them.
“This year, we mark the 50th anniversary of Australia’s honours system. We have a wonderful opportunity over the next 50 years of our honours and awards to reflect our generous, successful and modern Australian society.
“To all Australians, nominating and honouring our fellow Australians is a meaningful way of saying, as a nation, thank you.
“To all the remarkable 2025 Australia Day honours recipients today we celebrate you.”
Award recipients will attend investiture ceremonies at the Government House in their respective state or territory in the coming months to receive the insignia of their award.
