Interest rate rises, a limited housing supply and election uncertainty have created a challenging housing landscape over the last few years, but opportunities are ripe for brokers.
As expectations mount that the rate-reduction cycle may start this month – and with more housing supply expected to come online – 2025 presents an exciting opportunity for brokers to expand their reach and grow their business.

Ahead of the Better Business Summit 2025 – held across capital cities from February to April – Christian Paterson, director at Auctus Coaching, and Rob Roper (Robbo - Aussie Mortgage Guy), founder and director of Trusted Finance, share insights on mastering operational efficiency and developing effective marketing strategies to elevate broking businesses.
Optimising operations for brokers
Operational efficiency is key to success in broking, as without strong processes, brokers risk being bogged down by admin, leaving little time to focus on business growth.
Paterson highlights the importance of mastering operations, stating: “You can be a master at securing loans, and in our experience, many brokers enter the industry because they’re naturally talented or predisposed to succeed in this area.
“However, the common trend we see – even among the highest-performing brokers – is that the real challenge lies in mastering their day-to-day operations,” he said.
Many brokers fall into the trap of wearing too many hats, leading to burnout and inefficiencies, according to Paterson.
He said: “Expecting staff (existing or new hires) to work to their best without the proper groundwork complete and frameworks in place to promote success” is a common mistake.
The broker coach instead suggests brokers to refine loan processes, automate tasks, improve team management, and delegate strategically – rather than handling everything alone.
He said: “Brokers put a lot of pressure on themselves trying to do it all. I think the understanding that this is not always possible and delegation to internal or external support can be the key in solving many problems.”
Attracting and retaining clients in a competitive market
With nearly 75 per cent of home buyers now turning to mortgage brokers, competition has increased, and marketing and lead generation have become essential for brokers to differentiate themselves.
Social media sensation Rob Roper emphasised that standing out in 2025 requires a strategic approach to digital marketing.
Roper told The Adviser: “Brokers in 2025 are competing against each other for market share,” and “the transition to digital platforms also means that brokers are able to work Australia-wide,” intensifying the level of competition.
Roper highlighted that by building an automated video marketing funnel, brokers can consistently attract new clients while reducing the need for consistent manual effort.
He told The Adviser: “Brokers are only going to consistently market themselves if they have tools which make it sustainable.”
“I have developed a number of workflows, utilising a range of tools [that] makes content creation less time-consuming and more engaging.”
However, turning leads into loyal clients requires more than automation, with Roper stressing the need for genuine connections, both online and in person.
“If you provide the most value, you will gain the most attention. You need to prove you are an expert by creating daily content that educates home buyers across a range of home buying topics,” he said.
