Brokers that want to successfully cater to investors need to ensure they have good knowledge of the property market, Empire’s chief executive officer Chris Gray has claimed.

“It is critically important for brokers to have more knowledge than their client,” Mr Gray told The Adviser.
“The internet has educated clients. If that client then goes to a broker and the broker knows less than them, they will look elsewhere.”
According to Mr Gray, there are some subtle differences between residential mortgages for owner occupiers and investors and brokers need to be well aware of what these differences are.
“Clients shouldn’t be teaching brokers, it should be the other way around. Brokers really need to have lots of investor clients, so that they know their stuff inside out. Brokers that are dealing with investor loans are dealing with large amounts of money, and it’s risky.”
