Foreclosure filings increased in the United States by 23 per cent in the March quarter 2008 to 649,917, online real estate expert RealtyTrac revealed overnight.
According to RealtyTrac the surge in filings represented a 112 per cent increase from the corresponding period in 2007.

The figures also highlighted that one in every 194 American households received a foreclosure filing during the quarter.
Chief executive officer of RealtyTrac James Saccacio said foreclosure activity in the first quarter had increased on a year-over-year basis in 46 out of the 50 states, and in 90 of the nation’s 100 largest metro areas, “demonstrating that most regions of the country are seeing more foreclosures.”
