Brokers are being encouraged to embrace the commercial market as early data suggest the sector is beginning to blossom.

ANZ’s head of commercial broker, Cosi De Angelis, told The Adviser that while some cautiousness about the future remains, business conditions have improved somewhat in the commercial sector.

“There is still a lot of activity in the commercial and asset finance market,” he said.

“January sales figures suggest small businesses across the country have experienced a good start to the year. Obviously, it’s still early days and it’s not unusual to see a spike in January sales but these are positive signs and we’re hopeful this is the beginning of a solid year of trading for business owners.

“As business owners remain vigilant around costs, they are looking to optimise their cash flow, through both lending and savings solutions.

“There is a lot of refinance activity going on as customers look for the best deal in the market.”
