ING DIRECT has recruited Charles Smith to join its third party distribution team as the lender looks to build its profile within the financial planning industry.

Mr Smith has 37 years’ experience in the wealth industry across strategy, sales, business development and leadership.

The appointment comes as ING DIRECT pushes its converged distribution model further into the adviser landscape.

Having previously worked at ING Australia (now One Path), Mr Smith says the appointment is like coming home.

“Having worked for ING before, I was really looking forward to re-joining the culture but with a revived focus and new challenges,” he said.

ING DIRECT’s Head of Third Party Distribution Mark Woolnough said Mr Smith’s appointment will help raise the bank’s profile in the wealth industry.

“Charles is incredibly well-known and respected in the industry so we’re privileged to have his insight and experience in the team”.

“With the rollout of Living Super to Advisers mid next year, Charles’ appointment is well timed. This will see us take Australia’s fastest growing super fund to a whole new market and Charles will play a vital role in that process,” said Mr Woolnough.

Prior to his role at One Path, Smith held roles with ANZ Funds Management, Citibank and ANZ Banking Group.
