Two Rising Stars have encouraged new-to-industry brokers to attend The Adviser’s Better Business Summit, saying it’s a great opportunity to learn from the more experienced.

Both Madd Loans’ George Samios and Momentum Wealth’s Bianca Patterson took out the Rising Star accolade for Queensland and Western Australia, respectively, at this year’s Better Business Awards – the ceremony event which follows The Adviser’s Better Business Summit.

Mr Samios said up-and-coming brokers in particular can gain a lot by attending the summit.

“It was fantastic and I highly recommend new-to-industry brokers to definitely go and check it out,” he said.

“You can get heaps of handy tips and it’s just really motivational plus you get really good keynote speakers and industry-relevant people there so it was definitely worthwhile going.”

Mr Samios said for him personally, the sessions surrounding social media were particularly insightful.

“I got heaps of social media ideas, I got heaps of ideas on how to keep in contact with our clients and marketing tactics,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ms Patterson said the summit is useful for brokers who want reinforcement that they’re doing the right things to benefit their business in the long run.

“It was just full of really great ideas. Some that you already know about but need that third-party reinforcement, knowing that you’re doing the right things and that other people who are successful are doing the same things as you,” she said.

Ms Patterson added that the summit is “definitely worth the investment of money and time”.

“It’s a day out of your business but it’s well and truly worth it,” she said.

For those attending The Adviser’s Better Business Summit 2016, Ms Patterson has some key advice.

“Find successful people in the industry and spend the time just to say hello to them because you’d be surprised how much of their knowledge they are willing to share with you,” she said.

“Really be focused. It's very easy to sit on your mobile or on your iPad and check emails but that's not what you're there for.

“Try and leave your business at home for a day and just learn and absorb everything you can.”

Now in its third consecutive year, The Adviser’s Better Business Summit presents insights from some of Australia’s most established business people.

The premier event took out the Business Event of the Year category at this year’s Publish Awards (previously the Publishers Australia Excellence Awards) and was named a finalist in the respected Australian Magazine Awards’ Event of the Year 2015.

The Adviser’s Better Business Summit 2016 will be held in Brisbane on 18 February, Melbourne on 25 February, Sydney on 3 March, Adelaide on 11 March and Perth on 17 March.
