A former broker and former Westpac state manager for home lending has been made Suncorp Bank’s first state manager for Victoria and Tasmania.

Darren Edginton has joined Suncorp as its new state manager for the two southern states, providing support for Victorian and Tasmanian-based brokers.

Mr Edginton has more than 20 years’ experience in mortgage broker and financial services, and previously owned a Smartline Personal Mortgage Advisers franchise in Victoria (before selling it in 2009).

He has also around 10 years of experience in banking, having been state manager home lending Victoria at Westpac (and leading the bank’s response to the banking royal commission), as well as having been head of retail banking operations at the Bank of Melbourne.

Most recently, Mr Edginton was a director at Gemstone Consulting, where he developed and executed operational strategy incorporating comprehensive risk and governance planning.

He commenced his role at Suncorp on 31 March 2021.

Speaking of the appointment, the head of broker partnerships, Troy Fedder, said the team was “extremely excited” to welcome Mr Edginton to the newly created role, which aims to support customer outcomes across Australia and growing broker-originated growth.

“Over the course of his career to-date, Mr Edginton has implemented a range of changes that have led to positive business and consumer outcomes for the organisations he has worked for. He has a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by brokers and the opportunities available in both Victoria and Tasmania,” he said.

“Darren will lead a team of eight Suncorp business development managers in supporting our Victorian and Tasmanian brokers in executing and servicing Suncorp home and business loans.”

Mr Edginton is based in Victoria and said he was “pleased” to join Suncorp at “such an exciting time” for the non-major bank.

“Suncorp has a huge opportunity to grow market share, and I am looking forward to working alongside my team to harness the opportunities available, particularly in Victoria and Tasmania.”

“We are focused on making simple changes to make the experience easier for our brokers and customers to ultimately help customers reach their home goals quicker.”
