The mutual bank is helping to deliver energy and efficiency upgrades to community housing complexes across Australia as part of a three-year partnership with the charity.
These latest works at Mission Australia’s Mt Druitt complex represent the third major project to be delivered through the partnership. The upgrade includes solar panels, insulation, window glazing, LED lighting, and energy and water meters.
Mitchell Dawson, Mission Australia Housing’s strategic asset manager, said the upgrades were already having a positive impact.
“Installing the solar panels will make it more affordable for tenants to cool their apartments this summer. We’re already seeing positive results from our first complex upgrade in Forster, NSW, where tenants are on track to save $500 annually,” he said.
Mat Patterson, Great Southern Bank’s head of branches and broker, said the partnership demonstrates the bank’s commitment to supporting customers, communities, and climate action.
“Over the past 12-months, we’ve made significant progress in becoming a more environmentally responsible bank,” Patterson said.
“We’ve transitioned more of our branches and hubs to renewable energy and, earlier this month, launched a green home offering which offers customers a discounted loan rate.
“This complements the strong demand we’re seeing for our green personal loans. We’re excited to support Mission Australia tenants in adopting energy-efficiency measures to lower living costs and reduce emissions.”
