Suncorp Bank welcomes new head of home lending product

by Annie Kane8 minute read

A seasoned home lending product leader with broker experience has joined Suncorp Bank to spearhead its home lending product strategy.

Suncorp Bank today (10 March) welcomed Daniel Nicotra to the role of head of home lending product, based in Sydney.

Nicotra has extensive experience in mortgage development and working with the broker channel, having been responsible for mortgage origination and broker channel platforms and experience at digital lender Athena Home Loans for the past four years.

Prior to that, he worked in several roles at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) for a period of six years, including as the executive manager for home buying (strategic projects and portfolio), the executive manager of the credit reform program, and the executive manager for distribution capability. He has also worked in senior lender management positions at Bankwest, including as area manager for home lending.

Nicotra takes over the position from Karen Walsh, who has moved into the position as executive general manager of everyday banking.

Commenting on the new head of home lending product, Suncorp Bank’s executive general manager for home lending, Troy Fedder, noted Nicotra’s experience building the Athena Home Loans broker channel and establishing their white label partnerships (for example, with Mortgage Choice and LMG).

Fedder, who has previously worked with Nicotra at CBA, said the new hire was “a highly experienced leader and product executive” and will be a “key member” of the home lending leadership team.

“I’m excited for Dan to be joining Suncorp Bank and I know he will be an asset to the Home Lending leadership team,” Fedder said.

“Dan has proven himself to be an experienced product executive throughout his career and I look forward to seeing what he achieves as the Head of Home Lending Product at Suncorp Bank.”

Speaking of his new position as Suncorp Bank’s new head of home lending product, Nicotra said: “I am extremely excited by the opportunity to join such a high-performing home lending business and strong product team. I look forward to seeing how we can level things up even further. I can’t wait to work with the talented and innovative Suncorp Bank product team to continue servicing and supporting our customers while growing the business.

“Having worked closely with brokers and aggregators through the product development process, you can’t underestimate the role brokers play as home lending experts and as a voice of customer.

“Building a broker channel from the ground up to be successful has taught me a lot about servicing and looking after brokers.

“I have always admired Suncorp Bank for its broker and direct lending successes, and the fantastic culture and people. It’s very exciting to be a part of the next chapter of this story.”

The new appointment comes as Suncorp Bank continues to shake up its leadership team following its merger into ANZ Group.

Last year, the bank welcomed a new head of broker partnership in the form of Paul Brick who had been the head of strategic partnerships at ANZ Bank.

Speaking to The Adviser in November, Brick said the bank would continue to focus on prime lending and “making sure that more brokers are aware of what we offer the market and how we can best support brokers and their customers”.
