The new chief legal officer brings plenty of experience to the role, having worked as an external adviser to the non-bank lender.
SME lending specialist Banjo Loans has announced the appointment of Matthew Boglis as its inaugural chief legal officer, a role that will see him oversee legal, compliance, and governance functions.
Boglis brings more than 18 years’ experience to the non-bank lender, where he has worked as an external adviser for the past decade.
His career spans both private practice and in-house roles, focusing on commercial litigation, insolvency, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and risk management.
Most recently, Boglis worked as a managing partner of eastern seaboard-based law firm Mason Black + Mendelsons Lawyers.
He was also group general counsel of corporate group recoveriescorp, where he was responsible for managing legal and compliance issues across multiple jurisdictions.
Banjo Loans highlighted his experience in leading legal teams and managing complex issues, with a focus on delivering practical and commercial business-focused solutions.
Effective immediately, the new role will see Boglis drive efficiencies across the legal processes, according to the non-bank lender, with a focus on ensuring the company is well-positioned to respond to an evolving regulatory environment as well as market demands.
Boglis said he was looking forward to building on the “strong foundations that are already in place” at Banjo Loans.
“My goal is to add some additional bench strength to the business, especially in the legal and compliance areas that I specialise in, while also working to identify opportunities that can help improve efficiencies,” Boglis said.
“One of my key focuses will be ensuring that Banjo is not only legally compliant, but also continuously driving innovation and staying ahead of the competition.
“Having seen Banjo evolve from its early days when it was a small team, I feel an even greater sense of pride in what the company has accomplished. I’ve worked closely with this team for years, and now that I am part of the internal leadership, I’m eager to bring my experience in legal risk and governance to help Banjo become even more robust and agile in the face of growth.”
Guy Callaghan, Banjo Loans CEO, also commented on the appointment.
“We’ve worked with Matthew for a number of years as an external legal adviser and he’s proven himself time and again as someone who understands our business and the needs of our SME clients,” Callaghan said.
“More importantly though, he is someone that fits our culture. We’re thrilled to have him join the Banjo team as our inaugural Chief Legal Officer.
“Matthew’s in-house appointment also marks a significant step for Banjo as we continue to scale. His deep understanding of the business, combined with his extensive legal experience will be vital as we strengthen our internal capabilities, focus on compliance and drive our business efficiencies moving forward.”
