The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) yesterday agreed to the establishment of a national e-conveyancing system.

Under the new system, which will be implemented by March 2010, home buyers will benefit from reduced legal and conveyancing fees as well as a simpler process for the lodgement and exchange of documents.

Industry groups estimate the system could reduce the costs of buying and selling property by up to $250 million a year.
