The dollar value of national building activity declined by one per cent in the March quarter compared to the December 2007 quarter, ABS data showed yesterday.
New building activity was particularly slow, down 7.7 per cent on the previous quarter to $16.926 billion.

New non-residential building slumped by a significant 14.8 per cent in the quarter.
The worst hit locations were the ACT and New South Wales where the total value of building activity plunged 11.6 and 6.9 per cent respectively.
Queensland had the strongest result with a 3.4 per cent rise in building activity value.
