Mr Panos explained the significance of industry events in the context of training and education ahead of his third appearance at the Better Business Summit in 2016.
“Training and education is critical in business,” he said. “You sweat in training so that you don’t bleed in battle. We see that in sport. We see it in business.”
One of the best things brokers can get out of attending events like the Better Business Summit, Mr Panos said, is learning new ideas and concepts.
“You don’t know the conversation, you don’t know the presentation, you don’t know the sentence that someone says when you’re at a conference that allows you to look at business in a different light and you never look at life the same way again,” he said.
“One idea changes the game, one idea can actually change everything you ever thought about.
“One exciting thing about the Better Business Summit is that there is a distinct possibility – and we see it year in, year out – that someone comes along, hears something, goes back, implements it, and their business is tripled.”
When pressed for his best piece of advice to ambitious brokers, Mr Panos simply said “there are no more blind dates”.
“Everyone knows everything. The consumer is very sophisticated. They know more about you than you know about them,” he explained.
“The key takeaway point is make sure you are extremely attractive. I don’t mean aesthetically. I mean that your digital media footprint is attractive, your social media footprint is attractive, and your traditional footprint is attractive.
“You want the shot callers in the market place, the people who have influence, to be recommending you.”
One broker who transformed his business after attending this year’s Better Business Summit is Vishal Gupta of Unique Financial Services.
The Sydney-based broker said attending the event inspired his staff to create their very own CRM platform.
“I was not really a fan of digital marketing because I used to think that [in person] communication is better but after the summit we realised digital marketing is essential and therefore have gone on to generate our own CRM,” he said.
“We are in the final stages of building that in-house CRM and we have built up our website which will go live very shortly. That is purely because of the feedback from the summit.”
The Adviser’s Better Business Summit, in conjunction with The Adviser’s Better Business Awards, will be held in Brisbane on 18 February, Melbourne on 25 February, Sydney on 3 March, Adelaide on 11 March and Perth on 17 March.
