The privately owned aggregator has appointed a former credit analyst to its newly created Queensland BDM role.

Specialist Finance Group (SFG) has appointed former credit analyst Amy Thorburn to the newly-created business development manager role (BDM) in Queensland.

Speaking with The Adviser, Ms Thorburn said that in her new role, she will look after existing Queensland members and growing the state's member base. In addition, she will be facilitating learning professional development days, online lender sessions, and organising social events for members to participate in.

Ms Thorburn – who commenced her new role yesterday (5 July 2021) – has worked with finance brokers in the third-party space for over 20 years, and began her career in Melbourne at Aussie Home Loans.

She has since held credit analyst roles at Firstmac, Credit Union Australia, and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA).

Prior to joining SFG, she was a broker relationship specialist at Move Bank in Brisbane.

Speaking about her new role, Ms Thorburn said: "Queensland is going through a major growth phase and has a huge amount of potential. My goal is to continue with facilitating steady growth by offering high level support to our members, coupled with the provision of arguably the best software in the market.

"I see Queensland becoming one of SFG’s highest performing states over the coming years."

SFG aggregation manager Blake Buchanan also spoke about the newly-created role, telling The Adviser that SFG has aimed to scale the business and cater to existing and future members, and to complement the existing BDM and support team for Queensland.

He added that SFG has extended its member base by more than 50 per cent in the past 12 months (SFG has a member base of over 900 brokers).

He said: "SFG looks forward to enhanced exposure in the Queensland market with Amy at the helm.  We will continue to see our member base grow as market share climbs and brokers look for alternatives with technological and strategic solutions to suit their business needs."

Speaking about Ms Thorburn's appointment, Mr Buchanan said: "Amy has significant experience in credit and complex lending as well as business development and relationship management with some 20 years experience working with brokers.

"She is passionate about seeking out and building business relationships, coaching and mentoring, and has a real interest in seeing the Australian mortgage broking industry grow. We are thrilled that Amy has joined our SFG family and are excited to see her work in Queensland."

SFG recently partnered with marketing automation platform ActivePipe to enable its member base to access the platform’s automated email and SMS marketing services digitally through its SFGconnect CRM.
