R U OK? encourages everyone to look for signs the people they know may be out of sorts and, if anything seems off, start a conversation.
This year’s theme ‘Ask R U OK? Any Day’ illustrates the importance of checking in on family, friends, and colleagues all year round.
According to the R U OK? Quarterly Tracker from research firm Verian, 90 per cent of people who are regularly asked R U OK? feel more supported, connected, and cared about.
Katherine Newton, CEO of R U OK? says there is always an increase in supporting behaviour around the charity’s National Day of Action.
“However, we don’t want people waiting until September to reach out to the people in their world who might be struggling because life happens every day,” she says.
“A lot can happen in a year, a month, a week. Whether it’s your friend, family member, colleague, partner, or teammate, the people you care about go through life’s ups and downs every day.
“By checking in regularly with the people close to you, you can help prevent small things from becoming big things.”
