In a bid to improve customer relations, FirstMac is expanding its use of video and voice communications technology.

The mortgage lender is upgrading its video conferencing and officer communicator technology so that brokers can tune into conferences without even leaving the office.

“We’ve been using polycom video conferencing for many years, especially between our Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast offices,” FirstMac managing director Kim Cannon said.

“This has resulted in substantial cost savings and improved productivity for the business due to reduced staff travel and downtime, and now we want to take the next step and improve our communications capabilities further.”

According to Mr Cannon, FirstMac has, in the past, used office communicator internally for instant messaging, desktop sharing, plus voice and video to communicate with people at different office locations in Australia.

“We even use office communicator for department meetings, to conduct staff training and give presentations across different locations, plus to record sessions which we can publish to staff who were unable to attend the meeting,” Mr Cannon said.

“Since the GFC, the lending market has become even more competitive and focused on service and efficiency. We want to do everything we can to make our services as fast and efficient as possible.

FirstMac is currently trialing external features where customers can contact the company via office communicator and expects to rollout the improved technology within weeks.
