A Wollongong-based loan writer has made the top 10 list of Loan Market’s NSW brokers after just 18 months in the industry.

Renee Robins ranked sixth in the state for September after writing nearly $5 million in settlements during the month, and said the result was a long time coming.

“A lot of the deals that came through had been in my pipeline for anywhere between six and 12 months,” she said.

“It came down to nurturing my relationships and servicing my clients at the time that they needed it.”

Having graduated from Loan Market’s Accelerated Mentoring Program and established her business in March last year, Ms Robins said one of the biggest challenges she faced was moving from Sydney to Wollongong.

“I was working with clients in Sydney and as far north as the Central Coast, and wanted to provide them with the same level of service when I moved,” she said.

Ms Robins said she began developing referral partnerships and educating her new community about the various lending options available as soon as she completed the move.

“I began to realise that a lot people weren’t aware of the options out there. It seemed a lot of local mortgage holders had gone to one bank and taken the first option presented to them,” she said.

“I have found myself doing a lot of refinancing for people to save them money in the long term.”

Ms Robins formed a partnership with Ray White Albion Park in July, which she said helped her overcome the challenge of moving to a new region.

“They’ve provided me a great pathway to the local community and I’ve developed trust with the team really quickly,” she said.

“I make sure I go to their sales meeting every week. In each meeting, I present to them and try to vary it week-to-week. Sometimes it’s an education session – other times I run through a case study of what could happen with a customer or I update them on industry changes.”
